Orville Peck is speaking candidly about the difficult period that led him to rehab and a new focus on sobriety.
During a recent television interview, the country singer said a near-fatal overdose and growing personal struggles eventually forced him to step away from touring. Peck explained that his decision to enter treatment was initially tied to pressure surrounding his career, but his perspective changed as recovery continued.
He said sobriety also brought new challenges, including learning how to manage anxiety without relying on substances to numb difficult emotions.
Peck also reflected on his signature mask, describing it as a form of protection that helped him express vulnerable parts of himself through music. His story included memories of childhood bullying and the long process of becoming more comfortable with his identity.
Those experiences have also shaped his recent music. His latest album, Mule, draws from themes of addiction, recovery, and self-acceptance, giving listeners a more personal look at a chapter of his life he once kept private.
